Lenses
Always take two or more lenses with you, maybe one wide lens and one zoom lens. You can get into the details with the zoom lens without standing right next to the thing that you are photographing. The wide lens can be used to capture huge graffiti, or some spots that take a lot of space.
Equipment
Tripod can be useful, especially if you are shooting in evenings without flash and with a slow shutter speed. You want to blur, and only crisp and clear photos.
Contrasts
In the city there are a lot of buildings you want to capture, and other architectural places. So always look for strong contrast and geometrical shapes that will add that right touch to your urban photo.
People
Include people to create that urban feel to the photo. A big city is full of people so why not capture it?
